Design Quote

Design is the conscious effort to impose a meaningful order.  -Victor Papanek (1974)
Victor Papanek was all about creating design that did not offend the sensibility of the user.  He believed that design for the sake of design was only something nice to look at not useful for progressing life.  To Papanek the process of design was not something that just artists do but it is the process of working out a problem and getting from where you are at to a foreseen desired goal.  Design is planning and execution in any manner that is efficient and forward thinking.  Since design is, in that case, hand in hand with the process of human life, all work made from those in the specific design fields should be tied directly with it, in a way that brings order and betterment.  Design should allow people to continue their own process unhindered.

  1. You start off strong, "Victor Papanek was all about creating design that did not offend the sensibility of the user. He believed that design for the sake of design was only something nice to look at not useful for progressing life." and then the grammar gets a little sloppy, thus confusing. It would be nice to more explicitly state Papanek's views vs your own.

  2. Random fact: Victor Papanek taught at KCAI. And my dad took one of his classes back in the '70s!

    Small world!
